Bible Challenge - Work on Me, Holy Spirit

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.

"And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." - Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)

When the wind came rushing through the house, did you know that was the Holy Spirit. Did you know the wind is a symbol of the Holy Spirit? There are several symbols used in the Bible for the Holy Spirit. I have five more to help you understand, illustrate, illuminate, and to give insight and understanding.

  1. OIL. Oil represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Leviticus 8:30). When kings or priests in Israel were consecrated to their office, oil was poured over their heads.

  2. THE DOVE. In Luke 3:22, we will read of the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus, in the form of a dove. The dove represents the gentleness and comfort of the Holy Spirit

  3. LIVING WATER. (John 7:37-39) represents the life of the Spirit. There is no life outside of the Holy Spirit. The two most important works of the Holy Spirit, in the life of the believer are wind and fire.

  4. WIND. (Acts 2: 1-4). The rushing wind of Acts, Chapter 2, is symbolic of the power of the Holy Spirit. The true church of the Lord Jesus Christ is to be a church of power. Power that is greater than Satan.

Without the power of the Holy Spirit, there is no reason to have church. With power, sinners are saved, and believers are healed and filled. During the Pentecost, 3,000 were saved. In Acts 3, the lame man is healed. This is the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus placed a lot on the Holy Spirit. I call it delegating. In Luke 3, the dove ascending from heaven and coming upon Christ. Luke 4:1 states, Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus had to have the power of the Holy Spirit, how much power do you need from the Holy Spirit?

Our lives need the power from the Holy Spirit. How else are we to fulfill the Great Commission given to us by Jesus? We must have the wind of the Spirit blow again, on us. Wherever the wind is blowing, that is where Christ will be.

My last symbol is FIRE. Fire is symbolic of purity. This speaks of the sanctification process of the believer ( 1 Corinthians 15:49). This work of the Holy Spirit is the most important task. The doctrine of sanctification is important to the believer, as the doctrine of salvation is important to the sinner. The process of sanctification is a lifetime process. It is a process that can be violent to the flesh but pleasing to the Spirit.

The moral of my Challenge: Just as you need to go through Jesus to get to God, you're going to need the Holy Spirit to sanctify you. Work on me Holy Spirit.
